So, was it the sewing machine ******* that made the difference? Or do you think the oil had time to penetrate?

A ways back I won a couple of R8 cameras cheap off ebay (wrong category). I bid cause one was a Bolex P1 with all the accessories. It ran like it had rocks in the spring drive. Horrible sounding and sloooowww. I was directed to this Bolex self lube thread by Martin B.
Bolex Lube Thread
I had some sewing machine oil so I gave it a go. It did not work. The camera still ran dreadfully. After a while I gave up and put it away.
Months later moving things around I came across this camera again. I figured why not give it wind. Suprise!! it sounded smooth. Kind of shocked to be honost. Different speeds "sound" like they are correct. Put some scrap film in there and it pulled it through like butter. Can't wait to put it to the real test.
This post by Martin B. is one ! to print out just in case you come across a tired Bolex.

It sounds like the darn thing refused to be permanently banned, er binded.
cool story....always like to see an old small format camera resurrected! I've used my Brownie camera once, about 10 years ago, and the film came back with nonmoving permanent scratches that stayed in the same place throughout the film...i believe maybe there's something about the gate that scratched it up.
Just thought I'd bump this.
